Many moons ago, I used to do a series called “How To” where I’d pick a styling theme and share ways that I bring it to lie [like pairing leopard with neutrals, wearing leggings as pants, styling bike shorts, etc]. I wanted to bring that back by featured a very polarizing item: the mom jean. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll gather I am a “skinny jean wearing millennial” through and through. The mom/dad/wide leg jean trend isn’t fully my jam. But, in an effort to keep up with the youngins, I did snag a few pairs that I’m able to style my way that still feels on trend without being over the top.
Classic Mom Jean
This is the first styled I dipped my toe in and I have worn the heck out of these. They’re high rise, flattering through the legs, and a great, classic wash. I love pairing them with a power sleeve and then the accessory options are endless. These are from STS Blue, which is a really affordable brand to peruse [these look most similar to mine]. This style is also an approachable way to try the trend, as the distressing is minimal and the fit is clean.
I am a white jean lover, so I decided to add the Levis Wedgie to the mix. They have some other great styles in white. These babies are SNUG but really flattering. I love the distressed hem and pairing these with bright, bold colors. These are a great option to have year-round, but I especially love these as we transition to Spring.
Distressed Wide Leg
These are my newest pair and I think it’s a really fun option to have on hand. The brand has a lot of options that are fun and a bit more “out there”. The distressing is very obvious and the flare is a bit wider than the mom jean pair I have. I keep the top super simple [though a puff sleeve never hurt anyone] and bring in a muted pattern to the shoes for some interest. This is the pair I reach for when I want an edgier look.
