Blogging Fall/Winter Looks

A Night at the Opera

This is up there with the coolest doors that blogging has opened for me. Last Wednesday, I was invited for a sneak peek at the Cincinnati Opera’s production of Another Brick in The Wall, based on the Pink Floyd album. Katie, her husband, myself, and my sister were taken for a thorough tour of the backstage, hair, makeup, wardrobe, and set and it was seriously unreal.

After our tour, we were invited to stay for the first act of the dress rehearsal, as this was something only open to a small group of media and donors. We were 4 of *maybe* 40 people in the audience, which made it all the more special. We had a dead-on view of the stage and could even see into the orchestra pit. As this was my first time at the Opera, this was truly a treat.

This story is a rare opera performed in English (but you still can follow the music via subtitles on little monitors throughout the venue) however having an understanding of some of the real life details of Pink Floyd’s story, I had a better handle on what I was experiencing. We were told there are over 80 people in this cast and the costumes and props are super cool. While I was watching, I could hardly figure out where to look as it was all so stimulating. From the music to the look to the story, it was all the most impressive.

Whether you’re an opera buff, a Pink Floyd buff, a music buff, or just a “insanely cool thing to see” buff, this is the show for you. Another Brick in the Wall has 3 more shows on July 26, 28, and 31, and you can find tickets here.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be a Nines to 5 post without the outfit! So, for the occasion, I threw on this gorgeous emerald frock and dressed it up with black and leopard. Emerald and leopard is one of my favorite combos and this one did not disappoint.

Thanks to the Cincinnati Opera for the invitation and one-of-a-kind experience!
