1.) Get creative with stockings — We don’t have a fireplace (tear), so I had to come up with a different way to display our stockings. I used these hooks on our bookcase so that I could hang the stockings there. The hooks looked a little festive on their own, which helped pull everything together. I used gold glitter pens to personalize the stockings, which was a fun and thoughtful touch. To accompany the stockings on our faux “mantle”, I added in a nutcracker, some gold candlesticks, and a marquee letter for some light.
2.) Display Holiday cards in a unique way — Our fridge is already covered in wedding invitations, ticket stubs, family photos, and takeout menus. The last thing it needs is the added weight of 25+ holiday cards. I saw Katey use her sea urchin as a holder and I thought it was genius. I immediately grabbed mine out of our bookcase and filed in card after card. Not only is it cute and creative, I can easily see all my loved ones at once. PS – how adorable are our nieces and nephews?!
3.) Create your own centerpiece — When I saw this setup, I knew I wanted to recreate it. I knew I could easily find green and white flowers at my grocery store, so I picked up a few bundles. Once arranged in a vase, I added in these berry twigs which I found at the dollar store. The whole thing looks super festive and fancy, but was really cheap and easy to create. I put it on my favorite marble lazy susan with a candle and some candlesticks to finish off the arrangement.
4.) Use presents as decor — I know. Our tree is hilariously small. But, it was our first tree together when we started dating, and five Christmas’ later, it just didn’t feel right to replace it! We said we’ll get a big, real tree once we have kids, but for now this is perfect for us. Since it’s so small, it can feel a little dinky in our big family room. Once we added some gifts, it instantly felt more festive and cozy. I’ve also collected ornaments over the years, so it’s a good mix of mementos from our youth as well as pieces we’ve gotten together as a couple. Your tree is really what you can make your own so have fun with it!
