I shared yesterday what I wore on our excursion to Franklin BBQ, and today I’m going to tell you about the actual experience. And what an experience it was! If you’re not familiar, Franklin BBQ is touted as the best barbeque in the world. The pitmaster, Aaron Franklin, is currently the only person to win a James Beard award just for barbeque! People flock from all over the country to try his offerings, and we actually had to wait 4 hours in line. They do a great job of making the line-waiting a party, though. Beers are passed around, they passed out a free sample of a brisket sandwich, and music is playing. Everyone talks and waits in anticipation to try this famous barbeque. I’ve done many posts on Austin [especially on the food, like here and here], but going to Franklin was a true experience like I hadn’t had yet in Austin. The brisket I truly think was the best I’ve ever had, and the turkey and sausage were great too. Keep in mind I was 16 weeks pregnant with hyperemesis when we went, so I really wasn’t anticipating eating much, if anything at all. However, I couldn’t resist. It was all too good to miss! My husband has a smoker at our house and is big into the craft so this was a huge bucket list item for him, and now I can understand why. If you’re going to Austin and have a free morning, I HIGHLY recommend making the visit!

June 15, 2016 at 2:26 amWow, A four hour wait? Yeah, I would totally do that for some great food. Especially when the restaurant owners are nice enough to turn it into a party! Passing out beers and playing music is such a great idea.
