What You Should Know Before You Have A Dermaroller Treatment

Happy Wednesday! Today’s post is a bit different, but since my beauty posts are always a big hit, I thought this would be fun to share. Today we are talking all things Dermaroller. What’s that, you ask? Dermaroller is a clinical technique used mainly by skincare specialists in order to treat wrinkles and related skin conditions. If you are considering treating your skin by undergoing a Dermaroller procedure then you should educate yourself about the process first. Here are some things you should know before booking your first Dermaroller appointment.

What does Dermaroller do to the skin? Dermarollers have needles that are always small but vary in exact length covering their exteriors. As the Dermaroller is rolled across the skin’s surface, the needles poke tiny holes through the skin layers. There are two purposes to the treatment. The primary purpose is to cause the body to repair the punctures, and, in so doing, also repair skin damage like wrinkles in the process. A secondary benefit is that the tiny holes poked in the skin can help medicated creams to fortify the skin after treatment.

Why can Dermaroller work better than other treatments? There are, of course, many skincare treatments that can be quite beneficial. For instance, medical laser machinery can be used to treat not only wrinkles, but also other skin conditions. So, why might you prefer Dermaroller? The answer to that question is that laser devices, chemical peels, and other procedures often have limitations as far as the types of skin they can treat. Dermarollers have very few limitations. They don’t involve the use of heat or harsh chemicals, which means that they won’t cause burns or other major irritations in most patients. Also, since the needle sizes can be adjusted, they can be used on thick or thin skin.

What happens during Clinical Dermaroller appointments? Clinical Dermaroller appointments typically involve pre-procedure consultation meetings. Then, at the actual appointment, a clinician will roll the Dermaroller device across the skin in the treatment area over and over several times. The technician will be trained in the use of the device and know exactly how much treatment to do. The skin will also be numbed first with a gel or lotion of some kind to minimize discomfort.

But be careful, Dermaroller at home can be tricky. It is possible to get Dermaroller devices you can use at home. Therefore, you can bypass your local skincare clinic at least partially, but home Dermaroller procedures can be tricky, so it’s still best to ask a skincare expert for advise. In addition, pain management can be difficult when doing at-home Dermaroller treatments on yourself. They also need to be done in a sterile manner so you can avoid developing skin infections. In addition to that, you absolutely must keep the devices clean and replace them after a certain amount of use. Dull needles won’t work well, and dirty needles can make you sick. For those and many other reasons, such as difficulty reaching certain parts of your own body, you may want to avoid at-home Dermaroller procedures in favor of procedures that are performed by trained local clinicians in sterile environments.

Regardless of how you choose to have a Dermaroller procedure performed, you also need to be mindful of your body’s healing processes and needs. Your skin needs plenty of time to heal between sessions. So, if you intend to have multiple clinical treatments or do multiple at-home treatments, you need to space them out properly in order to help your skin, rather than hurting it more. I hope this was helpful if this is something you’ve been considering! I am a huge skincare junkie and advocate for safe and preventative measures to protect your face.
